NG Copilot and MCP: AI over documents, with a source and under your permissions
How NG Copilot answers from your documents citing the exact page, why it sees nothing you may not see, and what the MCP server means for the AI tools your team already uses.
In short
- NG Copilot answers from your documents and gives every claim a citation that opens the exact page in the viewer.
- Copilot acts on behalf of the signed-in user: it sees exactly what the user sees, with the same access trail.
- The MCP server connects AI assistants and agents to NG DMS through an open standard, without a separate integration for each tool.
- AI suggests, a person decides: registration, approval and disposal are always confirmed by a user with the right.
Short answer: NG Copilot is the AI assistant built into NG DMS. Asked a question in your own words, it answers from your documents and gives every claim a citation that opens the viewer on the exact page. It acts on behalf of the signed-in user, so it sees only the documents that user may see. The MCP server opens the same capability to the AI assistants and agents your team already uses — under the same permissions and with the same trail.
Why an answer without a source is not enough
In a registry office, a legal department or accounting, the answer “the contract expires at the end of the year” is worth something only when you can see where it says so. That is why NG Copilot does not answer from general knowledge but from the documents in the system: it finds them with hybrid search by text and meaning, writes a short answer and gives a source for every claim. Clicking a citation opens the page with the passage marked. When the documents hold no answer, Copilot says so instead of guessing.
What NG Copilot does in daily work
- Answers to questions. “Which contracts with Primer d.o.o. expire by the end of the year?” or “How much did we pay for maintenance in the third quarter?” — in Cyrillic, Latin or English.
- Summaries and comparison. A summary of a long contract, the differences between two versions, key obligations and deadlines — before a meeting or a decision in an approval workflow.
- Data extraction. An amount, date, tax ID, contract or invoice number moves from the text into the document's fields, with source and confidence, and the user confirms at the validation station.
- Sorting. A suggested type, correspondent, tags and workflow for every new document, and agents that sort incoming mail and prepare registration.
Same permissions, same trail
Copilot has no “super account”. Before any document enters an answer, it goes through the same permission check as in the list and search: organization, role, basis of access and confidentiality level. A document you may not open enters neither the answer nor a citation, and queries and opens stay in the access trail. The administrator decides for which organizations, document types and confidentiality levels AI is on, and strictly confidential documents and personal data can be excluded from AI processing entirely.
The machine suggests, a person decides. Copilot and agents do not register, approve, dispose of or delete on their own. Every write from a suggestion is confirmed by a user with the right, and the confirmation stays in the audit trail.
What MCP is and why it matters
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants and agents to business systems. NG DMS has an MCP server: the AI tool your team uses can search, read and cite documents and suggest actions — always on behalf of the user working with it and under their permissions. Access is enabled per organization and user, with a key the administrator can revoke at any moment.
The advantage of a standard is simple: one connection works for many AI tools, so when your team changes assistants, the documents, permissions and trail stay the same.
Where next
All capabilities are on the NG Copilot and MCP page, how NG DMS connects to NG One, NG CRM and other systems on the Integrations page, and the layers of the permission check on the Access and isolation page. To see Copilot on your own documents, book a demo.
Frequently asked questions
What does NG Copilot answer from?
From the documents in your NG DMS that the signed-in user may see. Every claim comes with a citation that opens the exact page, and when the documents hold no answer, it says so.
Can Copilot show a document I may not see?
No. Copilot uses the same permission check as the list and search, so a document without permission enters neither the answer nor a citation.
What is the MCP server in NG DMS?
A standard connection through which AI assistants and agents search, read and cite documents and suggest actions, always on behalf of a user and under their permissions.
Does AI register or delete documents by itself?
No. Copilot and agents suggest, while registration, approval, disposal and deletion are confirmed by a user with the right.
